aperture.

Ray,

Pentax makes a flash that will meet your needs, the AF200T. It is very
small, quite poweful for its size, has two auto modes, a TTL mode and a full
manual mode plus adjustable power levels. You can pick one up from
www.keh.com, or off eBay much cheaper.....I paid $25 for mine off eBay a few
years ago. I've since replace it with the AF280T, which came from KEH for
only $49.

basic info online. Their flash model designations are confusing (e.g., AF
means auto-flash, not auto-focus) and their instruction manuals and product
descriptions are next to useless.

No more confusing than anyone else's flash designation. The Suffixes are
the keys to Pentax flashes, F being digitial flash, T being TTL, Z being
zoom head, etc. What does the E in Canon's designation mean, or the EZ or
the EX?

instead of changing all of my lenses over to KA to take advantage of a
low-priced flash, I think it's time to sink money into the Canon EOS system.
At least info on EOS isn't as obscure as what Pentax semi-translates from
Japanese. And there doesn't seem to be any great confusion in regards to
EOS flashes and their compatibilities with various EOS cameras.

Nope, that's because EOS flashes will only work with EOS cameras. Try to
mount an EOS flash on an A-1 and see what happens......nothihg as the EOS
flash will not even talk to older manual bodies. At least Pentax still
makes a few flash guns which are compatible with their entire range of
cameras.
