I'm the one who's MZ-S fell two metres onto a concrete floor and was 
unscathed!  I reckon it's pretty tough.  It's also been knocked against 
walls and doors a couple of times with no damage.

I haven't formally tested exposure compensation, but I have had many 
spot-on exposures where I used the built-in flash as a fill-in, simply 
by setting the shutter speed to lower than the formal sync speed and 
letting the aperture fall where it will.

See above, and there are no "modes" on the MZ-S other than program.
