You can change the density of the data imprinting with one of the Pentax Functions. I haven't changed mine, so I don't know if you'll get rid of the so-called 'halo'. As for me, I use a good loupe to view that data if need be....it's easy with magnification, but definitely more difficult without it and especially without good light.
