Small announcement on dpreview.com Nothing that we haven't heard already, except that the folks at DP Review claimed to have verified the information.
I'd also note that the people at DP Review, who have a lot more insight about what's going on in the industry than most of the doubters here, say "It's not really surprising to find out Pentax have something in the works especially considering the announced and cancelled full-frame D-SLR of two years ago." I'm certainly not surprised and I also think this speaks well of the much-maligned Pentax marketing department. They did the right thing pulling the MZ-D when they did and I think they've done the right thing by letting the DSLR marked stabilize a little before introducing their product. The 1.4x-1.6x, 6-megapixel bracket looks to be the sweet spot to get into. I expect cameras in this specification range to be viable for a few years, even as more 11-15 megapixel full-frame DSLRs appear. They'll all get less expensive, but not at a particularly rapid rate. I don't expect to see 35mm-class go beyond 15 megapixels or so. -- Mark Roberts www.robertstech.com Photography and writing
