I can't agree with this analogy at all, having been heavily involved in audio myself (broadcast, studio design, live & studio recording) I can't correlate audio recording to image recording. Audio is a time domain capture and the human brain is very sensitive to acoustic distortions of various types. However the human brain seems far more able to accept a very wide latitude of distortions as representative of a faithful still image recording.
