Dimage dual scan II comes with 12 bit a/d while the III comes with 16 bit a/d. With a 16 bit a/d converter you get a lot better dynamic range. It seems that the III is a new version of the II with cool new features. Both are 2820 dpi. The Nikon LS-40 is a 2900 dpi scanner with 12 bit a/d. From these specs I'd say the Minolta III is the best.
