the trouble w/ m42 TC's is that they are all 4-element
designs (though there may be the rare 5-element unit).
consequently they have optical limitations compared to
newer 5 & 6 element designs.
Even so, a decent one will allow shooting at focal lengths
beyond one's financial means w/ results of varying degree
of acceptability. Stopping down a bit extra tends to help.
