FWIW, my K1000 takes just as good (or bad) a picture as my LX
using the same lenses. I suspect that the same would be true if
I bought an MZ-S.
While buying into a particular body is important to get a
particular needed feature set (don't buy Pentax if you need 47
point AF that will follow your eye around the viewfinder, for
example), buying good lenses is more important.
I am sorry to say, you haven't done that. The Albinar and
Vivitar are really cheap fourth party lenses, and I suspect this
is the cause of your dismay.
Getting any Pentax 50mm lens will improve your image quality
tremendously, and the discipline that the single focal length
forces on you will improve your photography at least as much
again.
This is one of those areas where you don't run into the law of
diminishing returns ever.
