Bad luck? Out of four FA* lenses I've owned, three was faulty right out of the box. I'm now on my third 77 Limited. The first had some dust on the front element; not too bad but it proved it had been out of the box. However, it had some dirt, looked like some dried liquid on the rear element. When I tried to clean it I noticed it was on the inside of the rear element. I sent it back (the Pentax distributor claim the box was never opened by them and I believe it). The next one I had for almost two years and over that time a spot developed between the two back elements, turned out to be erosion of the SMC coating, due to the fact that they collided when focused at infinity. Instead of repairing it, they promptly gave me a new one that has been perfectly fine and is even better optically.
