I've shot quite some EPH P1600 slide film with my LX (old shutter)
on auto (aurora borealis and astrophoto). I don't remember seeing
(actally: hearing) this kind of problem ever occuring... On the other
hand, my shutter speeds have always been over 20-30 seconds and 
usually a couple of minutes with the 1600 film (not in the 1 second
range). The LX original design had an max ISO dial of 1600. Maybe
they did not go thru all the design thoroughly enough when they
changed to 3200 ? In any case, this sounds like an electrical contact
problem. Not necessarily in the ISO resistor...
