The "size" of a digital sensor isn't strictly dimensional. The number of pixels determines the real "size" of the image. If you "enlarge" BELOW that size, then you have to throw information away. This leads to a property of digital files that really confounds traditional photographers--which is that, in some cases, BIGGER prints have MORE detail than smaller ones. Not more apparent detail--more actual resolution.
