The FF-1 is really the only option as a waist level finder, the FB-1/FC-1 is
impossible to use at a long viewing distance. Having said that I don't
regularly use the FF-1 from the waist as the finder view is a little bit too
small for me.

It's OK for composition but I really need to bring it up to my eye to focus. I
mainly use it to shoot over crowds and for shooting close to the ground and I
always keep it handy as it is so light and small. You can always build a little
cardboard baffle to emulate an FF-1 and get out and give it a test, it will be
the same view, all that would be missing would be the flip-up magnifying lens
(only used with the finder close to the eye).
