I believe your numbers are correct.  Stated another way, there are 4
ways to choose the first wire, 3 ways to choose the second, 2 ways to
choose the 3rd, and one way to choose the last.  I think this is just
called the permutations (combinations? I can never keep them straight)

You got it right, it's a permutation, ie. 4*3*2*1.


A combination would be 4*4*4*4, for instances where you can choose items and not 'use' them up. Say, in DNA, where you can use all the Gs and As you want.

I stunk at math in school but I loved probability, thus these are one of the few things that I remember.
