I have, and it's not so difficult.  I have done it with RedHat 9,
Debian, and Gentoo.  It is a pretty straight forward affair.  Just let
me recommend that all your Samba boxes have *unique* IP addresses. 
heh.  The Debian box did not work, and finally it appeared that a router
had the same address as the server.  Whoops.
