Virtually everything that enjoys widespread use is available and
well-maintained in Gentoo... but Gentoo does not attempt to make
"everything" available.  Adding something to portage is a non-trivial
process, so much of *is* there is the cream of the crop, so to speak.

As such, Gentoo is almost the exact *opposite* of a 100-CD distro.  Part
of its power comes from its implicit endorsement of well-known software,
where "well-known" is defined liberally but meaningfully.
