Well said Lennon. I'm looking forward to the hackfest myself, I think I'm going to learn a great deal. I've never seen the XP process, so that will be great.

Subject: [PDX.rb] Can't we just all get along?

I promise that this is the last time I'll cross-post (and hopefully,
the last time I'll post to the old kohalabs list, except to deal with
issues related to migrating away from it). However, I just want to
make sure this reaches as many people in the Portland Ruby community
as possible.

It's my sincere hope that the angry, hurt tone I've heard in a few
recent mailing list messages is isolated to just those few people who
have expressed such strong feelings about the recent activity
surrounding the website, mailing list, etc. Just in case, though, I
want to offer a heartfelt plea with everyone to please, please, please
just take a deep breath, relax, and remember that we're all on the
same side here.

There is no "inner circle" hatching sinister plots to take over the
group. Any changes which of we should "take heed" are simply a handful
of members volunteering to do work that needs to be done, such as
updating the website, moving the mailing list to a more discoverable
and permanent domain, and establishing some sane practices for
version control, administration, etc.

If anyone wants to be help, please just say so. Yes, it is helpful if
you show up in person, because this is first and foremost a local,
face-to-face sort of group. If you offer assistance and no one takes
you up on it, do not assume you're being excluded; we're all busy
people, and for most of us, this group is pretty low on the priority
scale 95% of the time.

So, to recap for those playing along at home:

The web server, mailing list, and infrastructure for the upcoming
hackfest have been generously donated by Robby, and are being hosted
from a system on his network (Planet Argon). If you want to contribute
to the web page, or be a list moderator, or whatever, contact him, or
join us in the IRC channel (#pdx.rb on irc.freenode.net).

Thanks to John's GTD awesomeness, we have a date, (next Saturday the
17th) time, (all day, starting around 11am) and location (the "green
room" at the Rose & Raindrop) for the website hackfest. It *will* be
awesome, and I *will* be buying the first round of beers whenever
people are ready to switch over from coffee.

Aside from that, let's try to return to our regularly-scheduled
programming, (pun intended) and have some fun!

-Lennon
