Perhaps some sort of generic CMS is needed that we can re-use for
different purposes like this? (with event planning and all that fun
stuff that most groups/.ORGs need)

I think Jeremy Kemper even had an idea about Personal Telco. Perhaps he
can share his thoughts on that... ;-)
