You might check out Cosmo. It was written by the OSAF people to use with
Chandler (thier soon-to-be OS, cross-platform PIM application):

Looks like it's basically just a WebDAV server set up specifically for
things like sharing calendars via iCal, Sunbird, or whatnot. But they
are adding in a lot of features.
It requires Java, though, so...
