FUD ?
Don't get that one, sorry.
Fear Uncertainty Doubt - a classic M$ strategy. Pretty emotive, I know. But, I happen to think there is enough material to work on to frame the various arguments without unreasonable statements. Much better to stick to something that is not so easily shot down and therefore discarded, IMO.
Yes, I do get the idea that you don't find P2004 easy, due partly to the reliance on the query statements (tricky design rules require it, and to really get the most from the program you do have to be able to use these queries effectively). I don't think you are "dumb" because of this. But I do know there are many designers out there just getting on with their jobs.
<..snip..> It would be a guess of mine that the developers at Altium were itching to make this change a long time ago, instead of the inconvenience of writing an additional layer around what they essentially done before in 99SE anyways and well before you requested this as a feature.
Who requested queries as a feature? I certainly didn't. are you suggesting I designed this system? Flattering that I had that much influence but totally and utterly wrong. I am interested in where this statement came from?
My knowledge of the release history (based purely on what appeared when) is that this was developed in-house and presented to users in the initial DXP product. That beta is way past know - probably doesn't matter if I say that I think my first (loud and long) complaints were about the queries. By keeping on at Altium during the beta processes and at other times we got the FSO dialog and other improvements.
You know what I think "AJ's secret cabal" of in-the-loop users is? The DXP forum and sane discussion of problems, and those prepared to invest time to make tools you all may be using in the future better. But I would say that, wouldn't I. Users spending time developing a relationship with a critical supplier - and this is a bad thing? It would be if they caused changes to suit themselves but not others. But I haven't seen that. But I would say that, wouldn't I.
P99SE has queries - just few people ever have to use them.
I know already what I can expect from SP2 ;), but will make no comment here, nor interrupt the SP2 process by doing so there either.
There is a lot in the public domain listing the intended features of SP2. Altium have released it so it is not covered by the NDA. There is a web page.
Bye for now, Ian
