Trent, If your hard drive isn't dying, or if you haven't self-infected your computer(2053?), then check your file associations. Classic problem with Protel is it's stupid inability to digest files that aren't specifically associated with it. Just another of Protel's idiot-savant character. Imagine, for instance, that because you install Winamp, Windows media player can no longer open media files. Or visa versa.
Open Explorer->tools->folder options->file types... Or find a Protel <insert name>.ins file using explorer, then File->Properties->General, press change button next to "opens with"... Good luck, and let us know what it turned out to be. aj >-----Original Message----- >From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >[mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Trent Bates >Sent: Tuesday, November 30, 2004 5:54 PM >To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Subject: [PEDA] Cannot locate server initialization file: > >I am moving to a new machine but I am having problems running >Protel SE SP6. > >When I start Protel I get the following error: >"Cannot locate server initialization file:" > >Sometimes this comes up for a while and I have to keep pressing return. >When I finally clear the error I cannot open any Protel files. > When I open them I don't get an error, they just don't open. > >Any suggestions > >My new machine >Athlon XP 2000+ >512 MB of RAM >Windows XP Service Pack1 >NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 > >To tell you the truth it might not be Protel's fault.
