As self-proclaimed and self-appointed chairman of the Protel User's Group, I would think you'd have a little more respect for the purpose of this group than to use it once again for your droll, pedantic dissertations.
While Mr. Jenkins had a point in his objection to my post here, he makes some claims that, on reflection, I think should not be left unanswered, they are highly misleading.
First of all, I was unanimously elected chair of the Protel Users Association, by all those who, after notice, chose to participate. The records are public to anyone who joins the Association. I was not self-appointed. I own the relevant mailing lists only as trustee and subject to the authority of the Association. Any member of the Association who wishes my position with the Association to be terminated is welcome to so move at any time. I can be removed by simple majority vote.
(Voting membership in the Association is limited to Protel licensees. There is no other qualification other than registration as a member, which may be done by joining the association mailing list, [EMAIL PROTECTED] To join, send a mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and respond to the confirmation mail. Because of spammer activities, membership approval is subject to moderator approval, but this will not be withheld from anyone who can show that they know what Protel even is....)
Secondly, what I do on this list, unless it is stated otherwise, is my own action and does not represent the position or opinions of the Association, for which I have no authority to speak except informationally or as otherwise specifically authorized.
"This list," or "this group," i.e., the PEDA Discussion List, is not an association activity, per se; rather, it is privately operated and controlled by Techserv Inc. As it serves the purpose of user support well enough, and though the Association does maintain a user support list, [EMAIL PROTECTED], that list is not promoted as the best place to find user support; rather this list is.
The protel-users list may be used, however, in emergencies or otherwise as users choose; in particular it is an alternate mode of communication if and when the Techserv list is down. Users are encouraged to join it, it has little traffic ordinarily, but the majority of Protel writers do belong to it, so it serves in a pinch. And if you ever need it, you probably won't want the delay for moderator approval of membership, which can sometimes take a few days. Further, membership confers access rights to the filespace associated with the list. If you don't want even the small additional e-mail traffic, users are still encouraged to join and to set yahoogroups options as "web only" or "no email," which then still allows immediate access when desired.
"Pedantic?" Moi? "Droll," however, sounds rather nice. :-) I'll take it, wrap it up.
