Subject: [PEDA] Format %x invalid etc - final
Well folks, here's the (what i believe to be definitive) final chapter....
Last week I got all the problems back, of coarse just before a major deadline. I was so mad I almost started a 'format c:'....
After fiddling with that deadline (now january 4) and another clean re-install I started replacing the various .ini, .rcs etc files: the ADVPCB99SE.INI proved to be the culprit, although I could not see anything wrong with it.
Another re-install later I started changing the settings one by one: while adding the corporate libraries the darn thing crashed. It could no be the libraries itself: they have been in use for quite a while, on various machines.
So I manually edited the ini file to have zero libraries and have Protel assign whatever default library it wanted the next time a PCB was opened. Sure enough, all was fine again: no crash.
While adding the corporate libraries the drop-down menu 'Files of type:' caught my eye: it read 'Ddb' while all my libraries and designs are in Windows file structure.
After correcting that setting to 'library files' and adding all libraries one by one it all works again as it should.
Apparently ProtelPCB gets confused by the usage of the Windows file system: in Ddb mode the add/remove function lists the correct Ddb in the upper window; after clicking on the ADD button it even lists all the contained libraries in the lower window but a subsequent click on OK then leads to the infamous "Format %x etc' error (no crash yet).
The library list in the explorer window remains blank, but clicking in there does bring up the contents of the libraries in the appropriate window (as if the library names were written with white ink)...
Correction is possible up to this point by re-opening the add/remove libraries function and removing all the listed libraries, changing the mode to library files and then re-adding all libraries.
To all a very happy new year.
