Q2:

File\Fabrication Outputs\Gerber\Layers lets you choose which layers to plot.
On my system the default display after Gerber generation is Camtastic1.cam
which is a composite of all enabled layers. It also generates individual
files for each layer: file.GTL, file.GBL etc. If you want to look at
individual layers in the composite plot got to Tables\Layers and
select/deselect desired layers.

BTW What software weenie thought that it made sense to put layer selection
under the 'Table' menu?

Welcome Steve,
Well you have ended up at the right spot, the best spot for Protel
support. We have lots of 'experts' worldwide that usually will supply
answers to your queries quite quickly.

These days it is usually best to mention what version of Protel
software you are using, there is a mix of people still using P99SE and
others using DXP. I am assuming your using 99SE at the moment, oops poor
assumption, just got to the very bottom of your message. Answers will
probably be valid for DXP as well though. If they aren't then someone else
will point out the difference.

Question 1: Yes there is. However, like all things there is no guarantee
that it will meet your needs precisely. It is found in the CAM generation,
insert TestPoint report. Hope it works suitably for your purpose. I have
never used it.

Question 2: Don't use Viewmate but I have never seen this in either
Camtastic, GCPrevue nor Gerbtool. I would have to think it is a quirk of
Viewmate. As far as I have observed there is nothing about Protel's Gerber
output of these features which should make them appear as a composite
output.

Good Luck.

Sincerely,

Subject: [PEDA] Gerber format & IPC netlist

Hi folks,

I'm relatively new to Protel after 10 years+ of PADS use. They're different,
and neither is perfect.

One of the good things about PADS is the ability to extract an IPC-D-356
netlist from the PCB file itself. This can be compared with an IPC file
generated from gerbers, and used to check the gerbers match the original
design. It's saved me from scrap boards more than once! To be fair, PADS
requires the running of a Visual Basic script. So, question 1... Is it
possible to generate an IPC netlist from the Protel PcbDoc file (i.e. not
from Camtastic).

Question 2 relates to Gerbers on layers with polygon pours. Any ideas how to
get around the composite layer format? Each gerber file opens as three
layers in ViewMate - one is the copper, one is the cut-outs, one is the text
& lines.

I'm running DXP SP2 build 8.2 on XP Pro SP2.

Cheers,
Steve
