Trent,
There is nothing wrong with your understanding. You would draw a
similar arc on the soldermask layer, making it a wider line to allow for
Soldermask registration same as pads are generally expanded for soldermask
openings for the same reason.

Subject: [PEDA] No Solder Mask over an Arc?
In Protel 99SE SP6 is it possible to define an arc or trace so that there is
no solder mask on the trace.
I understand that with pads you can override the Solder Mask (in the
"Advanced" tab in the Properties dialogue) but can you do that with regular
traces, specifically arcs?
To eliminate the solder mask over a trace do I simply draw a line on the
solder mask layer overtop of the trace?
