Dennis's observation reminds me of a time (back in 1994) when I "snail-mailed"
a floppy disk to a PCB manufacturer, who subsequently called me inquiring "what
is a zip file?". (Then again, in 1998, I corresponded with somebody else who
*still* hadn't encountered zip files prior to me emailing him such a file.)

And I seem to recall that there have previously been some messages sent to this
mailing list in which the senders commented on cases of PCB manufacturers not
being happy with receiving RS-274X format Gerber files (which incorporate
embedded aperture definitions), and who wanted to receive RS-274D format Gerber
files (which *don't* incorporate embedded aperture definitions) instead.

It is one thing to accept that some manufacturers might not be fully up-to-date
on some matters (such as not yet being able to handle ODB++ format files, as
one example), but I fully agree with Dennis about being wary of anyone who
requires files to be provided in HPGL format.

Regards,
Geoff Harland.
