Hi,

IMO (from the designer's point of view) it's not
important which program was used to design the board.
It's important that the design was done
professionally.
For the software developers it's important that they
see their product in use and they are proud that it
gains popularity.
A bad PCB designer always blames the software for his
problems.

As there are many CAD programs on the market and all
of us have put enough years to face at least two of
them, we'll be always comparing them and favouring the
one we know best.

I met Protel99SE a couple of times in the past but
this was like driving through an intersection where
you may always expect an accident to happen even if
you wear two safety belts.
I've evaluated almost all Protel-like versions in the
past and none was even close to be a candidate for
replacing PCAD.
I'm currently using Altium Designer 6 and I'm worming
up to it. There are still features, which I'm not
quite familiar with or they don't exist but overall
the product is good and the Altium's enthusiasm to
satisfy the customers' needs make me think that the
program will only get better.

I've used Orcad and I can live with it but it was put
to rest too.

I met Allegro twice and I fell in love with it but
it's like buying an expensive (transparent) dress. I
had to walk out of the deal because I didn't like the
idea to walk naked on the street and be a proud
Allegro owner&user.

No matter which program I'll use my designs will be
done well and that's what matters to my customers and
me. The CAD program is there only to help me do my
job. I don't expect it to do it for me.

Mira
