Jeremy, List, A few spare moments this morning, so I'll just try to give my personal take on Peirce's objective idealism.
I remember writing an explication of this this some time back -- searching tells me it was probably this gloss on the canonical paragraph from Peirce that I added to the Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Objective_idealism&diff=32124985&oldid=31235784 I and then Ben added more about Peirce, but most of that looks disappeared from the present article. Too much "original thought", I guess. At any rate, there are adjectives that restrict and adjectives that extend the meaning of the modified noun. Considering the whole of Peirce's thought I think we have to regard "objective idealism" as requiring a synthesis, a "coniunctio oppositorum", and the philosopher's stone that is born of this amalgam orbits far from the dualism of idealism versus objectivism. It can be grasped only within its proper setting, namely, the frame of triadic sign relations that bind objects, signs, and ideas together.
