Dear Seafarers,
This is a great news and great achievment for seafarer, after so many decades
being kept-aside by the world, seafarer has now got the recognition from IMO on
its contribution to the world economy, civil society throughout the globe.
Lets honour The Day of Seafarer June 25th, as a milestone of the change of
prespective of people toward the seafarer as an individual and the profession.
As we all know, living as a seaman is not an easy choice, both for the seaman
himself and family left behind. Seaman has to risk his life in the turbulence
ocean, freezing weather, rocking and rolling ship while his mind is thousand
miles away thiking of wife, children, parents and other loved ones at home.
Yet, no recogition was awarded, we even received negative comments from those
who have negative views in their minds toward seaman's bad habits like
darinking and womanizing, etc. Formal recognitions were given by our government
to other professions, like teacher labelled as Pahlawan Tanpa Tanda Jasa,
TKI/TKW Pahlawan Devisa but not to Pelaut, eventhough as the matter of fact
Pelaut contributed more devisa than the TKI/TKW.
Well, its history now, seafarer has now not only recognized and appreciated by
world organization but has also being protected by the resolution, guidelines
and provisons as to provide security from piracy, robbery to the seafarer as
well as protecting the seafarer from being mistreated by his company/ship owner
on contractual aspects.
Salam Pelaut....
