I agree with Jim's observation about the patricians' long term perspective of
capitalism.  The Bushies are about to grab anything they can right now.  The Dems do
seem to have a longer perspective.

Who are the last non-patrician Dems to be elected Pres?  Johnson & Truman both came
to the job as vice presidents, usually a throw away job.  Wilson seemed to have taken
on some of the aura of a patrician.

Nixon, Reagan, Harding, even Hoover were not patrician.  Teddy R. was, but he came to
office as a vice president.

This is a wierd relationship because the dems used to be the party of urban immigrant
groups and slaveholders -- who were patricians of a sort.
