I've seen this conceit a few times about timeless software. It's a peculiar sort of idealist claim that the industry fosters about intellectual property. Not that Doug is claiming that, but the pervasiveness of such claims is related to ideological views of consciousness being immortal as manifested in the corporation. The immortality is about how the 'soul' in the machine.
