I don't know about this: it was Nazi Germany that attacked the USSR, not Eastern Europe. It is true that Romania, Bulgaria and Finland joined the Germans - but that was puppet regimes in Romania and Bulgaria, and Finland was fighting in self-defense against the USSR to get their own territory back.
