There never has been. Just vehicles we make and operate ourselves. The Committees of Correspondence during the Amrican Revoltuion. The various anti-slavery groups. The Women's Suffrage Movement. The Christian Temperance Movement. The IWW. SNCC. SDS. SCLC. The early CIO. The Populist Movement _before_ Bryan got the DP nomination. Official "left" or liberal parties exist principally to absorb, blunt, deflect those vehicles. Change is brought about by vigorous _minority_ movements which operate outside electoral politics. The politicians, whether "conservative" or "liberal" will then ratify (mor or less) what those movements demand. The Parties don't have to do this themselves. They merely chug along doing the corporate work. Their too-hopeful followers -- especially burnt-out or despairing radicals -- bring in the sheep.
