In the NEW YORKER, Seymour Hersh has reported that the President and
Congress have authorized destabilizing attacks within Iran. If Iran
counter-attacks in some significant way, that would be an October
Surprise. Here "Iran" might be a local government or mosque or
faction, not the Iranian state. But the latter would be blamed.

Of course, the Bushies might fake an attack on Israel. I doubt they
have sufficient competence. Maybe if it happened in early November, so
people wouldn't figure out that the US government did it until after
E-Day, it could work out. But even that is iffy, given the competence
deficit and (what I presume to be) low morale in the White House.
