In the NEW YORKER, Seymour Hersh has reported that the President and Congress have authorized destabilizing attacks within Iran. If Iran counter-attacks in some significant way, that would be an October Surprise. Here "Iran" might be a local government or mosque or faction, not the Iranian state. But the latter would be blamed.
Of course, the Bushies might fake an attack on Israel. I doubt they have sufficient competence. Maybe if it happened in early November, so people wouldn't figure out that the US government did it until after E-Day, it could work out. But even that is iffy, given the competence deficit and (what I presume to be) low morale in the White House. -- Jim Devine / "Nobody told me there'd be days like these / Strange days indeed -- most peculiar, mama." -- JL. _______________________________________________ pen-l mailing list [email protected] https://lists.csuchico.edu/mailman/listinfo/pen-l
