I'm sorry for the confusion about David L. Landes, NOT the historian.

I incorrectly assumed that my friend David was widely known to many on this list. He was a fixture of the Bay Area progressives.

David L. Landes. Born on a co-op farm in the south, grew up in his beloved Yellow Springs, Ohio. A student and later colleague of Jim O'Connor's. We'd been friends for years but I learned only recently that David was Minsky's TA at Washington University, where David met Jim. David was one of the group purged from San Jose State's economics department in Governor Reagan's era. (1974) An early member of URPE.

Mostly, David was a wonderful friend, lots of fun and funny.

He traveled to Nicaragua during the revolution there, and to Cuba, and he was always out locally for whatever event or cause needed him. Or just for lunch.

Sorry for my assumption that his fame was more widespread than it was.

David Landes has passed away.

Daphne Muse, David's wife phoned early this morning with the very sad news that David died last evening.

David was a stalwart comrade. A quiet, modest, generous, loving man.

Those of you who knew David know what a great loss the left community has suffered.

Is this the historian David Landes? And if so, why does/did he count as 'left'?
