We're All Minskyites Now

By the way, Minsky's parents met at a dance celebrating Marx's birthday.

I have to comment on the amusing aspect of the alternate universe that I bring to my PEN-L readings... famous names invoke entirely different personalities: for you Minsky is whoever you are talking about above, but for me, its stuffy old Marvin Minsky the MIT AI proponent whose predictions went nowhere. For you Barkley Rosser is the economist, but for me its his father, one of the greatest logicians of the 20th century. For you Ms. Robinson is Joan Robinson, the great economist, while for me its Julia Robinson the even greater(*) mathematician. To you Polanyi is Karl the economist, while I know more of his sibling the philosopher and chemist Michael who visited "The Republic of Science" upon me. And to me, von Mises is of course Richard von Mises, scientist, probability theorist and philosopher of science, not his brother Ludwig the libertarian nutcase ;-).

(*) because of course mathematics trumps economics. ;-)
