Wait, wait, there's more! List's powerful critique of Smith stressed the
'causes' of the wealth of nations over the 'nature' of said wealth, and
in the process he focused on 'the theory of productive forces' [e.g.,
'if therefore a sacrifice of values is made owing to protective tariffs,
that sacrifice is compensated by the acquisition of productive
forces,....']. See Marx's 1845 essay on List's National system of
Political Economy [from which I've taken the above quote--- as I don't
travel with my copy of List].
