‘Peak Oil’ Is a Waste of Energy
By MICHAEL LYNCH
... But we can’t let the false threat of disappearing oil lead
the government to throw money away on harebrained renewable energy
schemes or impose unnecessary and expensive conservation measures on a
public already struggling through tough economic times.

Michael Lynch, the former director for Asian energy and security at
the Center for International Studies at the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, is an energy consultant.

That says it all, doesn't it?

I don't think it's useful to dismiss someone's argument just because
they are associated with politically-incorrect organizations. Even a
stopped clock is right twice a day. What if we reject any thoughts or
data presented by anyone who's associated in any way with immoral and
parasitic institutions such as Wall Street? Instead, we should find
the logical and/or factual flaws in the argument.

By the way, whose interests are served if people are convinced that
the "peak oil" theory is wrong? It seems to me that the oil companies
win either way.

An oil-industry flack scoffing at global warming? What's new about that?

And, coincidentally (?), a featured article about Prince Turki al- Faisal in the same day's NYTIMES declares: "...The Saudis have genuine reasons to fear the effects of the Obama administration’s energy policy and its commitment to reducing oil consumption, as well as efforts to reduce carbon emissions. As Prince Turki points out himself, Saudi Arabia holds 25 percent of the world’s known oil reserves and would like to keep selling oil for several more decades..."

Grandly overstated those fears about Obama might be, but the connection is clear.
