He did leave a woman to drown, and a lot of his family was repugnant. Do you disagree?

I disagree. He left a woman who had already drowned--the only alternative was to be drowned himself. His error, for which he paid a monstrously high price, was a short delay before notifying the police. True, his father was repugnant. But he himself and his older brothers moved so far away from that baleful influence that they had to be assassinated--two physically, one politically.
