In addition, it would be a mistake to jump to interpreting the "liberal, secular society" of the Netherlands as being the same as a "liberal, secular society" in the US. The US usage of the word "liberal" is different from the European one; for the latter, "liberal" is more a matter of "19th century liberal" (money libertarianism) while in the US "liberalism," is more like FDR's New Deal or mild social democracy.
