Claudia Chaufan, MD, is an Argentine physician and assistant adjunct professor
in the Institute for Health and Aging and Social and Behavioral Sciences at the
University of California, San Francisco. She is also vice president of the
California Chapter of Physicians for a National Health Program. According to
its web site, PNHP supports "single-payer national health insurance - a system
in which a single public or quasi-public agency organizes health financing, but
delivery of care remains largely private." Dr. Chaufan talks to, and writes
for, lay and expert audiences on the social dimensions of the diabetes epidemic
and on single-payer health care reform. This is a recent email interview with
her.
