from the review of TECH Transfer:
“The department, like others at Kershaw, had a geriatric tilt because
of the federal law against age discrimination, which restricted forced
retirement. In the absence of incontestable dementia or other
disabling infirmities, professors were assured life-long employment,
as long as they could get to the campus."

very true.

"The department housed multiple sects of economics: Keynesianism,
mercantilism, monetarism, Henry George single taxing, libertarianism,
and neo-Marxism. There were Friedmanites, as well as gold and sliver
nostalgists, flat taxers, and a non-repentant bi-metalist.”

Pluralism of this sort is rare in reality, except in small liberal
arts colleges (which are too small to allow a lot of pluralism). Most
economics departments at research universities in the US tend to be
dominated by neoclassical economics. The ones that aren't (like the
University of Notre Dame) are shut down.

I would like to meet the non-repentant bi-metalist or the mercantilist.

"Those who take the most from the table
        Teach contentment.
Those for whom the taxes are destined
        Demand sacrifice.
Those who eat their fill speak to the hungry
        of wonderful times to come.
Those who lead the country into the abyss
        Call ruling too difficult
For ordinary folk." – Bertolt Brecht.
