Exactly. The Dems can be as awful as they like, because 
the Republicans are always awful-er. The Republicans 
can be awful-er this time than they were last time, because 
the Democrats have spent the intervening period emulating their 
awfulness. So each gets more awful with each click of 
the ratchet.
