Freire admired Lenin.  CLR James praised Trotsky.

They were both very significant intellectuals behind what hedges called the 
"old left."  Yes they were flawed and got much wrong.  But they got much right 
too.

Some of my good friends on the Left in Philly in the 80s were from the SWP or 
were deeply influenced by Trotsky.  I think of the late George Dolph (who 
volunteered four jobs,with NOW, CISPES, the Greens and on and on) while doing 
his regular job.

And as Cockburn likes to say, Lenis was the one responsible for the line (and I 
paraphrase) "one must be as radical as reality itself. . ."

I like Chris Hedges very much but I doubt that he has ever read 
enin and Trotsky, or perhaps having read them had no clue what 
hey were saying.
