Amused bewilderment on the left has oft been prelude to horrors from the right. Recall Tom Lehrer in 1963 or so: "Hollywood's always tried to mix Show business with politics >From Helen Gahagan To Ronald Reagan??" (the "really?" implied in his voice) This was followed a few years later at Woodstock Festival when a performer dedicated a tune to "Governor Ronald Rayguns". Lo and behold! Life imitated art and the frivolous Palin-esque Reagan was directing Star Wars from the Oval Orifice (while the assassins of John Kennedy ran the country).
