PEN-Lers, I'm writing a piece Gillian Tett, the author of Fool's Gold," about the banksters.
She does not mention Marx, or capitalism (except for once on p.72, not critical) nor Henwood, Perelman, Proyect, or socialism in the book! Do a search and see: http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/141659857X/ref=sib_dp_pt#reader-link What are we to make of this? Does she get a pass because she is trying to get past the censors? Michael's book on the next great Depression (2007) is the better book, , ,but not references anywhere! LBO is indispensable in understand things. . . Yes, she does a great job telling us an inside story about these Animal House guys. . .and maybe we should just give it a wink and a nod based on that. . . Maybe not. . . I think she should get criticized because while she spends so much tie talking about the "silos" of finance, and the "social silences" that abound. . .she herself is stuck in a silo. . .she is obscuring the real issues. . .for example here's David Harvey's 10 minute animated talk on the crisis. http://davidharvey.org/2010/06/rsa-crises-of-capitalism-talk-animated/ I know that Michael and Doug said good things abut the book, and having just completed it, I like much about it. . .it's like tell-all from a formed friend of Bush (Paul O' Neil, Richard Clarke etc.) Please advise! Best, Brian
