What the hell are we talking about? As Brad DeLong's analysis suggested nobody needs Keynes to realize that austerity is stupid. Even the Republican idiots adopted Keynes-like analysis in calling for the tax cuts for the superrich.
What's going on politically is not a debate over economics. It is the most overt class war, perhaps, in the history of the United States -- a war in which the poor and working classes are left to their own devices, lacking any organized force to represent their interests. If austerity tends to make the economy function even worse, the bastards will take that as evidence that more tax cuts and deregulation are needed. We can stand by and ridicule each other. Where is Carroll's stern analysis when we need it? Perhaps that is the new revolutionary strategy for the Internet age.
