Oh please, let's stop giving Fidel Castro a "get out of jail" card. I say this as someone who has written a book's worth of posts on the net defending Cuba's government. He is not the pope. He is not infallible. He is always looking for figures in the DP that might be more open to peaceful relations with Cuba. It is one thing for him to wax eloquently on Jesse Jackson's Rainbow Coalition run for the presidency but Obama was another story altogether. In terms of analogies, I think there are more relevant comparisons. Although I rejected the idea yesterday that the USA today has much in common with Weimar Germany, the DP functions just like the SP did at the time, dithering away and making concession after concession to the "lesser evil". What we need is a national party that can fight fire with fire. Our problem, however, is that there is no class basis for this at this time. You saw some "heat lightning" in Madison this year, but we are still not at the point where working people are ready to go to the mats. But just give these bastards some time and they will recruit our shock troops for us. _______________________________________________ pen-l mailing list [email protected] https://lists.csuchico.edu/mailman/listinfo/pen-l
