I wouldn't exclusively rely on Kalecki, but its a damn good start. Fred Hirsch's Social Limits to Growth is also very valuable. Even the conservatively-oriented Public Choice literature offers insights into why one might be skeptical of the "benevolent planner" rationale of policy intervention. You want newer ideas than 68 years old? How about Steven Medema's "The Hesitant Hand: Taming Self Interest in the History of Economic Ideas" (2009)?
