(I was not planning to send that because "jmp" is obviously a troll, but FC's link copy-paste machine has resumed activity after the week-end, so let's go.)

Ok, so that's what it comes down to. People need to first assert that they are not Apple|Jobs fans before trying to discuss Apple, otherwise some lunatic will use the fatal insult: "fan boy" to stop the discussion. Wondering if that is what Michael was trying to protect himself from... Anyway, now we know that: • Acer Inc. (Taiwan) • Amazon.com (United States) • Apple Inc. (United States) • Asus (Taiwan) • ASRock (Taiwan) • Intel (United States) • Cisco (United States) • Hewlett-Packard (United States) • Dell (United States) • Nintendo (Japan) • Nokia (Finland) • Microsoft (United States) • MSI (Taiwan) • Motorola (United States) • Sony Ericsson (Japan/Sweden) • Vizio (United States) among others, use Foxconn's factories and thus have the same higher than usual suicide rate as Apple, will anybody tell us how Apple's business practices are fundamentally different from Nintendo's or HP's or Dell's, or MS' or any other company from the above list ? Also, we mentioned "more open is better" but I'm not sure how iOS devices' "closeness" compares to Nintendo's or to MS' or to Sony's etc. If iOS devices are considered (comparatively) "closed" then it must be really bad because I am not aware that the other maker's devices are very much "open" or "compatible". Has anyone here tried to run a Nintendo game on a XBox ? The walled garden would be an iOS exclusive ? Has anyone tried to develop for makers who do game consoles ? Have they noticed how _extremely_ walled was the gardens ? Like so walled that actually only a few thousand applications were available on those platforms all put together (compared to the 400,000 apps available to iOS devices that did not exist 4 years ago, not counting the apps that did not make it _into_ the garden) ? That makes for a pretty _big_ walled garden, so big in fact that it is hard to see the wall when you're inside. In fact, "walled gardens" are the development paradigm for such platform. Only Android, in _some_ ways allows for non walled gardens, but it is not for all the devices it covers because it very much depends on the device maker. We also read here and there that Jobs was a liar and that he did not spend money on philanthropic activities. Jeez, that's bad for a hard core capitalist. Do we have anything else ? Apple is a huge US based HW maker and as such it is an important actor of 21st century capitalism. Because Apple is a very successful company, what was not seen or not considered as a problem before (closeness, "walled garden" etc) suddenly comes to the front stage. And some people confuse that for something that only Apple would be doing. That's not the case, and in case it is necessary to write that, I never pretended that makes Apple any "better".
