Economists use observational data. Whatever may be available. In
this world we live in, because that's the world we live in, most
economic data are going to be generated by "mechanisms" (cause-effect
chains) in which markets play some role. When we change society and
uproot markets, and new social processes are in place, then we'll have
different data.
